What this test is for
This test sequences your whole genome at about 30x average depth, meaning each position is read about 30 times on average. Compared with 3x sequencing, it provides more consistent coverage and confidence across the genome. Your order includes a Genome Computer genome bundle, gVCF, and FASTQ files. This product is not a diagnostic medical test and does not include Mito dashboard biomarkers, genetic interpretation, an action plan, or medical advice.
What you'll learn
-
Rare and pathogenic variants. Clinical-grade 30x depth confidently calls rare variants, including actionable ClinVar findings worth reviewing with a clinician.
-
Carrier status. Find out which inherited conditions you carry, information that matters for family planning and your family’s health.
-
Pharmacogenomics. Understand how your genes shape drug response, from medications that may work less well to ones that could be more toxic for you.
-
Ancestry, traits, and polygenic scores. The full common-variant layer is here too: your ancestry, polygenic scores, and everyday traits like sleep and caffeine metabolism.
Compare sequencing depth
Both read your entire genome, not a fixed genotyping array. The difference is depth: how many times each position is read, which drives confidence on rarer variants. A light 3x lights up your identity and trait layer; the clinical-grade 30x adds the full clinical and pharmacogenomic layer.

Frequently asked questions
View all FAQsWhat's the difference between 3x and 30x whole-genome sequencing?
Both tests sequence your whole genome. The number describes average sequencing depth, or how many times each position is read.
3x uses lower average depth, so some positions have lower confidence. 30x reads each position about 30 times on average, providing more consistent coverage and confidence.
Neither option is a diagnostic medical test.
How does the at-home genome test work?
After checkout, sign in to Mito and follow the dashboard steps to confirm your shipping address and consent. The collection kit is then shipped to you.
Follow the included instructions to collect your saliva, then send it back using the included prepaid materials. You can follow the kit and sequencing status in your Mito dashboard. No separate physician order or laboratory visit is needed.
The test is currently for adults aged 18 or older who are submitting their own sample.
How long will my genome sequencing take?
3x and 30x sequencing usually take 2 to 3 weeks after the laboratory receives and accepts a valid sample. Kit delivery and return transit are separate, and all timing is an estimate rather than a guarantee.
What files will I receive, and where will I find them?
Your order includes a .genome bundle, gVCF, and FASTQ files. They will be available to download through Mito.
Mito does not turn these files into dashboard biomarkers, a genetic interpretation, an action plan, or medical advice.
Can I use my genome files for medical decisions?
No. These are research-use genomic data files, not a diagnostic test, medical report, or clinical interpretation. Do not use them on their own to diagnose a condition or make medication, treatment, or screening decisions.
For medical interpretation, consult a physician, clinical geneticist, or genetic counselor who can assess the data in the context of your health and family history.
Do I need to repeat whole-genome sequencing every year?
No. This is a one-time purchase and Mito will not automatically repeat or renew it each year. Ongoing reanalysis is not included with this purchase.
Is whole-genome sequencing eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. The genome test and its shipping charge are HSA/FSA eligible. You can select HSA/FSA at checkout when every item in your cart is eligible.
Can I cancel or return my genome kit?
Contact Mito support as soon as possible if you need to cancel. An unused kit can be returned within 30 days of delivery for a refund of the purchase price if the outer packaging and collection tube remain unopened. You are responsible for unused-kit return shipping.
Return a collected sample within 180 days of receiving the kit. Return shipping for the collected sample is included. Once the laboratory receives your sample, the order is non-refundable. If the sample fails laboratory quality control, a refund is not provided and any replacement kit is considered case by case.
How are my sample and genomic files stored and deleted?
Genome Computer and its accredited laboratory receive only the information needed to ship your kit, process your sample, and produce your genomic files. Your genomic data is stored and processed only in the United States.
At checkout you choose what happens after your files are delivered: secure delivery followed by deletion of your hosted genome within about 30 days, or ongoing hosting so your insights can be updated over time.
You can ask us to delete your data or destroy your sample at any time:
- You can request a portable copy of your genome files first.
- After you ask us to delete, your files are removed from active systems within about 14 days and from backups within about 90 days.
- We instruct the laboratory to destroy your biological sample within 30 days, unless it is legally required to keep it longer, in which case it is destroyed once that requirement ends.
Copies you have already downloaded or shared with another service are governed by that service. Deletion does not undo processing already completed before your request. To make a request, email help@mitohealth.com.
What does Mito do with my genomic data? Do you sell it or use it to train AI?
Your genomic data is yours, and we put our commitments in writing in our Genomic Data Privacy Notice rather than a policy we can quietly change.
We do not:
- sell your genomic data or share it for advertising
- use it for targeted ads
- use it to train AI models
- share it with researchers, pharmaceutical companies, insurers, employers, or data brokers
There is no research program, and your genomic data is stored and processed only in the United States. You keep ownership of your biological sample, your genome files, and the insights generated from them.
For the full details, see our Genomic Data Privacy Notice at mitohealth.com/genomic-data-privacy or email help@mitohealth.com.
What do I agree to when I buy whole-genome sequencing?
At checkout for whole-genome sequencing, you review and accept two documents: the Genetic Services Terms and the Consent and Authorization for Genetic Services. We only sequence your sample after you give this express written consent.
You also acknowledge that the accredited laboratory may keep your biological sample for the limited accreditation, quality-assurance, and legal-compliance purposes its rules require. Whole-genome sequencing is a wellness and educational product, not a medical or diagnostic test.
You can withdraw your consent at any time. You can read both documents at mitohealth.com/genetic-services-terms and mitohealth.com/consent-genetic-services, or email help@mitohealth.com.
Who can see my genomic data? Is it shared with my insurer or employer?
No. We do not disclose your genomic data to your insurer or your employer. Only our service providers, such as the sequencing laboratory and our hosting providers, receive the minimum information needed to deliver your results.
We do not hand your data to any government agency voluntarily. We require valid legal process, we read those requests narrowly, and where the law allows we tell you first so you can challenge it.
The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) also limits the use of genetic information in health insurance and employment, though it does not cover life, disability, or long-term-care insurance. For details, see our Genomic Data Privacy Notice at mitohealth.com/genomic-data-privacy or email help@mitohealth.com.
Who can order whole-genome sequencing, and where is it available?
Whole-genome sequencing is available to adults who are at least 18 years old and ordering for themselves. You can only submit your own sample, not one for a child or another person.
It is offered only to people who live in and are located in the United States. It is not currently available to residents of, or people located in, Texas, because of a state genomic law our sequencing provider is still working through. This may change in the future.
You confirm your age and where you live at checkout. If you have questions, email help@mitohealth.com.
Does Mito Concierge use my genomic data? Is it sent to AI?
Mito Concierge can reference your educational genomic insights to help you understand what a result means, for education only. It does not diagnose, give medical advice, or recommend or adjust medications, supplements, or treatment, and it points you to a qualified professional when a question calls for medical judgment.
To write plain-language explanations, a small, relevant amount of genomic context may be sent to our AI providers. Your genomic data is never used to train AI models. If you prefer, you can avoid this entirely by not using the Concierge's genomic features.
Personalized Concierge insights are available with a Mito membership. For more, see our Genomic Data Privacy Notice at mitohealth.com/genomic-data-privacy or email help@mitohealth.com.
