Trichomonas vaginalis is a single-celled parasite spread through sexual contact and the cause of trichomoniasis, one of the most common curable sexually transmitted infections. This test grows the organism from a genital specimen in culture, confirming an active infection rather than past exposure. Symptoms include vaginal discharge, itching, irritation, painful urination, and discomfort during sex, though many infections, especially in men, cause no symptoms at all. Culture is highly specific for a live organism, which makes it useful for confirming infection or checking that treatment cleared it. Untreated trichomoniasis raises the risk of acquiring other STIs and can complicate pregnancy, so a positive result leads directly to antibiotic treatment of you and your partners.

Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. Eligible tests can be paid for with an HSA or FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
