Pre-test considerations
No fasting is required. Avoid heavy meals, large fluid volumes, and intense exercise immediately beforehand, since hydration and food shift readings. For meaningful comparisons, scan under similar conditions each time (same time of day, similar hydration). Wear light clothing without metal, and tell the technician if there is any chance of pregnancy.

What this test is for
A DEXA scan uses low-dose X-ray attenuation to estimate body composition: total and regional fat, lean muscle mass, and bone mineral density. It is more detailed than a scale or BMI because it separates where you carry fat (including visceral fat around the organs) from where you carry muscle. Low bone density flags osteopenia or osteoporosis, while tracking lean mass shows whether a diet or training block is actually building muscle or quietly costing you. The numbers are estimates rather than perfect measurements, so the real payoff comes from repeat scans under consistent conditions. Where do I get tested?
Choose a partner lab (Quest, Labcorp, or BioReference) at checkout. If your cart spans multiple tests, we consolidate the whole order onto a single lab so you only make one visit.
