Zinc is an essential trace mineral involved in immune function, wound healing, protein synthesis, taste and smell, skin integrity, and normal growth. Low zinc is linked to frequent infections, slow-healing wounds, hair loss, rashes, loss of taste or appetite, and impaired growth in children, and is more likely with malabsorption, heavy GI losses, restrictive diets, or long-term parenteral nutrition. High zinc usually reflects supplementation or occupational exposure, and excess zinc can suppress copper. This serum or plasma test measures circulating zinc, the standard way to assess current status, evaluate suspected deficiency, and follow zinc therapy, including oral zinc in Wilson's disease.
It differs from the related catalog variants by what each measures: Zinc, RBC and Zinc, Whole Blood capture intracellular and total blood content, Zinc Protoporphyrin reflects iron-deficient red-cell production, and the ZnT8 antibody is an autoimmune diabetes marker rather than a nutritional one.

Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. Eligible tests can be paid for with an HSA or FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results appear in your Mito dashboard after the laboratory completes processing. A clinician then reviews them before your analysis and personalized action plan are finalized. Timing varies by test, and specialty assays and at-home kits may take longer.
