Walnut (f256) IgE with Reflex to Component Panel
Screens IgE sensitization across the foods behind most food-allergy reactions.
Consider this test if:
- Reactions like hives, swelling, mouth tingling, or GI upset after eating that you cannot pin to a specific food
- A history of a severe or anaphylactic reaction and you want to map sensitization across common triggers
- Skin-prick testing is impractical because of eczema, dermographism, or antihistamine use
- Building a baseline before an oral food challenge or a supervised reintroduction
- Sorting out which of several suspected foods is worth further evaluation
- HSA/FSA eligible

Reflex testing
If your IgE result for egg white, cow's milk, or peanut comes back abnormal, the matching allergen component panel runs automatically to identify which specific proteins you react to and help gauge the risk of a serious reaction. This is done at no additional cost.
Pre-test considerations
No fasting required, and timing during the day does not affect the result. Antihistamines do not interfere with blood IgE testing, so you do not need to stop them beforehand, unlike skin-prick testing. Bring a record of which foods provoke symptoms and how quickly, since results are only meaningful alongside your reaction history.

What this test is for
This is a food allergen panel that measures IgE antibodies to 15 foods commonly associated with allergic reactions, including walnut, cashew, almond, hazelnut, peanut, egg white, cow's milk, wheat, soybean, sesame, shrimp, scallop, codfish, salmon, and tuna. IgE is the antibody class that drives immediate allergic reactions, from hives and swelling to gastrointestinal symptoms and, at the severe end, anaphylaxis. A positive result means sensitization, not a confirmed allergy: many IgE-sensitized people eat the food without any symptoms, so results are read against a history of reactions that track with exposure. It is most useful when skin testing is impractical, such as with widespread eczema, dermographism, or ongoing antihistamine use. The panel is broad, so expect some positives that do not correspond to real-world reactions.

This test detects IgE antibodies specific to walnut, the immune marker your body builds when it mistakes walnut proteins for a threat. A positive result means your immune system is primed to react on exposure, triggering histamine release that shows up as hives, lip or throat swelling, stomach upset, or in severe cases anaphylaxis. It's useful for confirming a suspected walnut allergy after a reaction, or for investigating unexplained symptoms after eating foods that may contain walnut or cross-reactive tree nuts.

Frequently asked questions
View all FAQsHow does pricing work?
Every test shows the member price next to the standard non-member price, so you can see what membership saves you. The member price is our cost — covering the lab and what it takes to run the service — never a profit on the test itself; Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9/mo, and you still pay the lab’s order fee. Prices are itemized before you pay, with no hidden fees.
Where do I get tested?
Choose a partner lab (Quest, Labcorp, or BioReference) at checkout. If your cart spans multiple tests, we consolidate the whole order onto a single lab so you only make one visit.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. This test is HSA/FSA eligible, and you can pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results post to your dashboard once your lab completes them, then a clinician reviews them and your full analysis and personalized action plan (with clear next steps) follow. Turnaround varies by test: specialty assays and at-home kits take longer, and each test shows its expected turnaround before you buy.
Do I need a doctor’s order?
No. Mito provides the lab order for you, so you can book and get tested without a separate doctor visit.
