What this test is for
Thyrotropin receptor antibody (TRAb) is an autoantibody that binds the thyroid's receptor for thyroid-stimulating hormone, switching it on and driving the thyroid to overproduce hormone. It is the direct cause of Graves' disease and is detectable in about 90% of people with the condition, which makes it the marker that distinguishes Graves' from other causes of an overactive thyroid. A positive result alongside symptoms like rapid heartbeat, weight loss, heat intolerance, tremor, anxiety, and bulging eyes points clearly toward autoimmune hyperthyroidism. TRAb is also used to predict relapse after stopping antithyroid medication and to assess risk of neonatal hyperthyroidism in pregnancy, since maternal antibodies can cross the placenta. It is typically checked after TSH and free T4 have established that the thyroid is overactive, to pin down why.

Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
