About this test
Thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO antibodies) target the enzyme the thyroid uses to make hormone, and they are the most common marker of autoimmune thyroid disease. They are present in 70 to 90 percent of people with chronic (Hashimoto's) thyroiditis and in many cases of Graves' disease, so a positive result points to an autoimmune cause when TSH or free T4 is abnormal. A small percentage of healthy people, more often women and older adults, carry low-level antibodies without thyroid disease, so the result is read alongside thyroid function and symptoms like fatigue, weight change, cold intolerance, hair loss, and brain fog.
This test measures TPO antibodies on their own. If you also want the second autoimmune thyroid antibody, the Thyroid Peroxidase and Thyroglobulin Antibodies Panel adds thyroglobulin antibody, and the Thyroiditis Panel adds TSH and free T4 to show thyroid function at the same time.

Where do I get tested?
Choose a partner lab (Quest, Labcorp, or BioReference) at checkout. If your cart spans multiple tests, we consolidate the whole order onto a single lab so you only make one visit.
