Pre-test considerations
No fasting required and no specific timing needed. Very early infection can test negative before antibodies develop, so repeat testing is sometimes warranted after a recent exposure. Tell the lab or clinician about any prior syphilis diagnosis or treatment, since treponemal antibodies often stay positive for life.

What this test is for
This test detects antibodies to Treponema pallidum, the bacterium that causes syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection that can progress silently through stages and, untreated, affect the heart, brain, and nervous system. It follows the CDC-supported reverse algorithm: a sensitive treponemal antibody assay runs first, and any positive sample automatically reflexes to RPR, a nontreponemal test that helps distinguish active infection from a past, treated one. If the RPR is positive, a titer is reported to gauge disease activity and serve as a baseline for tracking treatment response; if the RPR is negative, a second treponemal assay confirms the antibody result. Because treponemal antibodies usually persist for life, a positive screen is interpreted alongside your symptoms, exposure history, and any prior treatment rather than read in isolation.

Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?

When will I get my results?
