Pap Smear and HPV DNA Co-Test
Cervical cancer screening that pairs cell changes with detection of the virus that drives nearly all cases.
Consider this test if:
- You are 30 or older and due for routine cervical cancer screening
- A prior Pap or HPV result was abnormal and you are following up on schedule
- You want the most sensitive screening option rather than a Pap alone
- You have a history of HPV infection or cervical dysplasia being monitored over time
- You are unsure when your last screening was or whether you are overdue
- HSA/FSA eligible
- Results delivered to your dashboard · Reviewed by a real clinician
- Drawn at a CLIA/CAP-accredited lab near you ·
Pre-test considerations
Schedule when you are not menstruating; mid-cycle is ideal. For about 48 hours before the sample, avoid intercourse, vaginal douches, tampons, and vaginal medications, creams, or spermicides, since these can interfere with cell collection and interpretation. The sample is collected by a clinician during a pelvic exam. No fasting is needed.

What this test is for
This co-test combines two screens on a single cervical sample: a Pap smear, which looks for abnormal or precancerous cell changes, and a high-risk HPV DNA test, which detects the strains of human papillomavirus (16, 18, and a dozen other oncogenic types) responsible for nearly all cervical cancer. Running both together catches more disease than either alone, because the Pap finds cells that have already changed while the HPV test flags the infection that causes those changes, often before any cells look abnormal. A negative result on both is strongly reassuring and supports a longer interval before the next screen. A positive HPV result does not mean cancer; it identifies who needs closer follow-up, typically genotyping for types 16 and 18 or colposcopy depending on the Pap findings. It is the standard screening approach for most women aged 30 and older.

Frequently asked questions
View all FAQsHow does pricing work?
Every test shows the member price next to the standard non-member price, so you can see what membership saves you. The member price is our cost — covering the lab and what it takes to run the service — never a profit on the test itself; Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9/mo, and you still pay the lab’s order fee. Prices are itemized before you pay, with no hidden fees.
Where do I get tested?
Choose a partner lab (Quest, Labcorp, or BioReference) at checkout. If your cart spans multiple tests, we consolidate the whole order onto a single lab so you only make one visit.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. This test is HSA/FSA eligible, and you can pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results post to your dashboard once your lab completes them, then a clinician reviews them and your full analysis and personalized action plan (with clear next steps) follow. Turnaround varies by test: specialty assays and at-home kits take longer, and each test shows its expected turnaround before you buy.
Do I need a doctor’s order?
No. Mito provides the lab order for you, so you can book and get tested without a separate doctor visit.
