Pre-test considerations
No fasting required. A random voided sample works; a clean-catch midstream sample is preferred if contamination is likely. Hydration affects specific gravity, so heavy fluid intake right before collection can dilute the result. Recent vitamin C and some medications can interfere with the chemical strip, and menstrual blood can cause a false positive for occult blood.

What this test is for
This is a urinalysis: a combined chemical and microscopic look at the urine that includes specific gravity, pH, color, appearance, glucose, ketones, protein, bilirubin, occult blood, nitrite, and leukocyte esterase. Specific gravity reflects how concentrated the urine is, a quick read on hydration and the kidney's ability to concentrate, while the other markers screen for urinary tract infection, kidney disease, glucose spilling into urine, and blood or protein that warrant follow-up. It is a broad first-pass test: abnormal findings point you toward the right next step rather than diagnosing a single condition. Protein or blood, for example, usually leads to a more specific kidney or urology workup, and positive nitrite or leukocyte esterase prompts a urine culture. As an inexpensive baseline it is also useful for tracking known kidney or metabolic conditions over time.

It is never a profit on the test itself. Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9 per month, and any applicable lab order or draw fee is itemized before you pay.
Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. Eligible tests can be paid for with an HSA or FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results appear in your Mito dashboard after the laboratory completes processing. A clinician then reviews them before your analysis and personalized action plan are finalized. Timing varies by test, and specialty assays and at-home kits may take longer.
