What this test is for
Sodium is the most abundant electrolyte in your blood, and it controls how water is distributed between cells, tissues, and the bloodstream. Low sodium (hyponatremia) shows up with overhydration, certain medications like diuretics, kidney or adrenal problems, or conditions that cause the body to retain water, and can produce confusion, headache, nausea, and weakness. High sodium (hypernatremia) usually reflects dehydration or inadequate water intake. Because sodium is tightly regulated by the kidneys and hormones, an abnormal result often points to a fluid-balance or kidney issue rather than how much salt you eat. It is read alongside potassium, chloride, and bicarbonate to interpret the broader electrolyte and acid-base picture.

Choose a partner lab (Quest, Labcorp, or BioReference) at checkout. If your cart spans multiple tests, we consolidate the whole order onto a single lab so you only make one visit.

When will I get my results?
