What this test is for
Sm/RNP measures antibodies against two extractable nuclear antigens, Smith (Sm) and U1-ribonucleoprotein (RNP), that the immune system mistakenly targets in certain autoimmune diseases. Anti-Sm is highly specific for systemic lupus erythematosus, while high anti-RNP is the defining feature of mixed connective tissue disease, which combines features of lupus, scleroderma, and polymyositis. It is typically ordered after a positive ANA to narrow the diagnosis when symptoms like joint pain, persistent fatigue, facial rash, Raynaud's, muscle weakness, or unexplained inflammation point toward connective tissue disease. A positive result supports a diagnosis but is interpreted alongside symptoms, exam findings, and other autoantibodies, since antibody patterns overlap across these conditions. A negative result is most useful for helping rule these specific diagnoses out when an ANA workup is underway.

Membership is $9 per month, and any applicable lab order or draw fee is itemized before you pay.
Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. Eligible tests can be paid for with an HSA or FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results appear in your Mito dashboard after the laboratory completes processing. A clinician then reviews them before your analysis and personalized action plan are finalized. Timing varies by test, and specialty assays and at-home kits may take longer.
