Pre-test considerations

No fasting required, and timing of day does not matter. The key timing factor is exposure: antibodies and antigens take weeks to become detectable, so testing too soon after a possible exposure can produce a falsely negative result and may need to be repeated. A reactive RPR automatically reflexes to a confirmatory syphilis test.

What this test is for

This panel screens for five infections through antibodies and antigens in the blood: syphilis (RPR with reflex confirmation), HIV (4th-generation antigen/antibody, which detects infection earlier than antibody-only tests), hepatitis B (surface antigen for active infection plus core antibody for past or present exposure), hepatitis C antibody, and herpes simplex types 1 and 2 (IgG). It is the right panel for routine sexual-health screening, a new-relationship baseline, or follow-up after a possible exposure. Because these are serology tests, timing matters: antibodies take weeks to develop, so a test done too soon after exposure can miss a recent infection and may need repeating. A separate STI panel using NAA testing (chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomonas, Mycoplasma genitalium) detects current genital infections from a swab or urine and covers different organisms, so the two are often run together.

Herpes IgG indicates past exposure rather than the timing or site of infection, and HSV-1 in particular is extremely common and often acquired in childhood, so a positive result is best interpreted against symptoms.

    How does pricing work?

    Every test shows the member price next to the standard non-member price, so you can see what membership saves you. The member price is our cost, covering the lab and what it takes to run the service. It is never a profit on the test itself. Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9 per month, and any applicable lab order or draw fee is itemized before you pay.

    Where do I get tested?

    Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.

    Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?

    Yes. Eligible tests can be paid for with an HSA or FSA card at checkout.

    When will I get my results?

    Your results appear in your Mito dashboard after the laboratory completes processing. A clinician then reviews them before your analysis and personalized action plan are finalized. Timing varies by test, and specialty assays and at-home kits may take longer.

    Do I need a doctor's order?

    No. Mito provides the laboratory order when one is required, so you do not need to arrange a separate doctor visit before purchasing.
