Oxidized LDL (OxLDL)
A marker of oxidative damage to LDL particles, an early driver of arterial plaque.
Consider this test if:
- Building a detailed cardiovascular risk profile beyond standard cholesterol, especially with diabetes, metabolic syndrome, or strong family history of heart disease
- Tracking whether a statin, diet change, or antioxidant strategy is lowering oxidative burden over time
- Normal LDL and ApoB but ongoing concern about plaque progression or inflammation
- Already have elevated Lp(a) or ApoB and want to characterize the oxidative component of your risk
- HSA/FSA eligible
- Typical results in 3-5 days · Reviewed by a real clinician
- Drawn at a CLIA/CAP-accredited lab near you ·
Pre-test considerations
Overnight fasting is preferred. The sample requires careful handling: plasma must be separated and frozen promptly, so this is a lab-based draw rather than a quick fingerstick. Hemolyzed or lipemic samples are rejected, so avoid a high-fat meal beforehand. If you take a statin or antioxidant supplements, keep the routine consistent between tests so changes reflect a real shift, not a timing artifact.

What this test is for
Oxidized LDL (oxLDL) measures LDL particles that have been chemically modified by oxidative stress, the form most readily taken up by the arterial wall to seed and grow atherosclerotic plaque. Elevated oxLDL is linked to atherosclerosis, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and certain liver and renal diseases, and it reflects the oxidative-stress component of cardiovascular risk that standard cholesterol numbers do not capture. It is most useful read alongside ApoB, LDL cholesterol, Lp(a), and triglycerides, since oxLDL adds the oxidation angle rather than replacing particle count or concentration. It has also been used to gauge whether therapies such as statins are reducing oxidative burden over time. If your goal is simply to quantify atherogenic particle burden, ApoB is the more established first-line marker; oxLDL is the additional layer when oxidative stress is the specific question.

Frequently asked questions
View all FAQsHow does pricing work?
Every test shows the member price next to the standard non-member price, so you can see what membership saves you. The member price is our cost, covering the lab and what it takes to run the service. It is never a profit on the test itself. Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9 per month, and any applicable lab order or draw fee is itemized before you pay.
Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. Eligible tests can be paid for with an HSA or FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results appear in your Mito dashboard after the laboratory completes processing. A clinician then reviews them before your analysis and personalized action plan are finalized. Timing varies by test, and specialty assays and at-home kits may take longer.
Do I need a doctor's order?
No. Mito provides the laboratory order when one is required, so you do not need to arrange a separate doctor visit before purchasing.
