Pre-test considerations
No fasting is required for MPO itself. The sample needs careful handling: plasma must be separated and chilled promptly, so draws are timed around lab processing. Acute infection or recent illness raises MPO and other inflammatory markers, so retest when you are well if a result looks unexpectedly high.

What this test is for
Myeloperoxidase is an enzyme released by activated neutrophils and monocytes during inflammation. It is part of the body's antimicrobial defense, but the reactive oxidants it produces also damage lipids and proteins in artery walls, which is why elevated MPO is read as a marker of vascular inflammation and is associated with unstable atherosclerotic plaque and higher cardiovascular risk. It adds information that standard cholesterol numbers miss, since two people with similar LDL can differ in how inflamed and unstable their plaque is. MPO rises with inflammation generally, so it is interpreted alongside lipids, Lp(a), Lp-PLA2, and your overall cardiovascular picture rather than in isolation.
This test measures the MPO enzyme itself. The separate myeloperoxidase antibody (anti-MPO) test is a different marker used to evaluate ANCA-associated vasculitis, not cardiovascular risk.

It is never a profit on the test itself. Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9 per month, and any applicable lab order or draw fee is itemized before you pay.
Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. Eligible tests can be paid for with an HSA or FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
