Pre-test considerations
No fasting required and no specific timing needed. Testing very early in the illness can miss antibodies that have not yet risen, so if symptoms are new and the result is negative, repeat testing or EBV-specific antibodies may be worthwhile a week or two later.

What this test is for
This test looks for heterophile antibodies, a class of antibodies the immune system produces during infectious mononucleosis, usually caused by Epstein-Barr virus. A positive result alongside the classic picture (sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, fever, marked fatigue, sometimes an enlarged spleen) confirms mono. About 10% of mono cases are heterophile-negative, particularly early in the illness or in young children, so a negative result does not rule it out and EBV-specific antibody testing is the usual next step. The test has strong specificity, but occasional false positives mean the result is read against your symptoms and blood count rather than in isolation.

It is never a profit on the test itself. Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9 per month, and any applicable lab order or draw fee is itemized before you pay.
Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?

When will I get my results?
