Pre-test considerations
No fasting required and timing during the day does not matter. The main timing factor is illness stage: heterophile antibodies can take one to two weeks to develop, so testing very early may give a falsely negative result. If symptoms continue after a negative test, a repeat or EBV-specific antibody testing may be needed.

What this test is for
The mononucleosis screen looks for heterophile antibodies, the immune response the body produces during an active Epstein-Barr virus infection. Mono typically causes sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, fever, and the deep, lingering fatigue that can last weeks. A positive result supports a mono diagnosis when symptoms fit, which helps distinguish it from strep throat and other causes of sore throat. The heterophile antibody can take a week or more to appear, so a negative result early in the illness does not rule mono out and may warrant a repeat test or EBV-specific antibody testing. It is most useful in the first weeks of symptoms, since the antibody fades over time and the test is not meant to confirm a past infection.

It is never a profit on the test itself. Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9 per month, and any applicable lab order or draw fee is itemized before you pay.
Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. Eligible tests can be paid for with an HSA or FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
