Lead, Blood (Adult)
Measures current and recent lead exposure, the main reason to check for lead toxicity in adults.
Consider this test if:
- Working with batteries, solder, smelting, welding, firearms, radiators, or renovation of pre-1978 buildings
- Unexplained fatigue, irritability, headache, abdominal pain, joint pain, or anemia
- Hobbies involving lead such as stained glass, casting bullets, or glazing pottery
- Routine occupational monitoring where exposure is known or suspected
- Tracking your level after removing a source of exposure
- HSA/FSA eligible
- Typical results in 2-4 days · Reviewed by a real clinician
- Drawn at a CLIA/CAP-accredited lab near you ·
Pre-test considerations
No fasting required and timing is not critical, since lead accumulates over time and clears slowly. For occupational monitoring, a sample can be collected at any point during the workday. The draw uses a special lead-free or royal blue-top tube to avoid contamination.

What this test is for
Blood lead measures how much lead is circulating in your blood, the standard way to assess recent or ongoing exposure. Lead has no useful role in the body, and elevated levels are linked to fatigue, irritability, headache, abdominal pain, joint pain, anemia, and, at higher levels, neurological effects. Adult exposure is usually occupational or environmental: battery manufacturing, smelting, welding, radiator and bullet work, construction and renovation of older buildings, certain ceramics and pigments, and some imported cosmetics or supplements. Because lead accumulates and clears slowly, sampling time is not critical, and a single draw reflects your recent exposure burden.
This test reports lead alone. If you also want arsenic, mercury, cadmium, or cobalt assessed in one draw, the broader heavy metals panels are the better fit; this one is the right choice when lead is the specific question, such as workplace monitoring.

Frequently asked questions
View all FAQsHow does pricing work?
Every test shows the member price next to the standard non-member price, so you can see what membership saves you. The member price is our cost — covering the lab and what it takes to run the service — never a profit on the test itself; Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9/mo, and you still pay the lab’s order fee. Prices are itemized before you pay, with no hidden fees.
Where do I get tested?
Choose a partner lab (Quest, Labcorp, or BioReference) at checkout. If your cart spans multiple tests, we consolidate the whole order onto a single lab so you only make one visit.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. This test is HSA/FSA eligible, and you can pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results post to your dashboard once your lab completes them, then a clinician reviews them and your full analysis and personalized action plan (with clear next steps) follow. Turnaround varies by test: specialty assays and at-home kits take longer, and each test shows its expected turnaround before you buy.
Do I need a doctor’s order?
No. Mito provides the lab order for you, so you can book and get tested without a separate doctor visit.
