What this test is for
Islet antigen-2 antibody (IA-2) is one of the autoantibodies the immune system produces when it attacks the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. A positive result is a key marker of type 1 diabetes (T1D) and helps distinguish it from type 2 diabetes and atypical forms like latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA), a distinction that is missed in roughly 40% of adults newly diagnosed with T1D. IA-2 specifically is associated with more advanced islet autoimmunity and faster progression to symptomatic disease, which makes it useful for identifying presymptomatic T1D in people with a family history or high-risk HLA genotype. Because confirming early-stage T1D requires at least two of the four islet autoantibodies, IA-2 is best interpreted alongside GAD65, ZnT8, and insulin autoantibodies (IAA) rather than on its own.

Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?

When will I get my results?
