Insulin-Like Growth Factor-2 (IGF-2)
A growth-factor marker used to work up growth disorders and certain tumor-related low blood sugar.
Consider this test if:
- Investigating a growth disorder where IGF-1 alone has not clarified the picture
- Working up recurrent low blood sugar suspected to be tumor-related
- An endocrinologist has ordered IGF-2 to calculate the IGF-2 to IGF-1 ratio
- Monitoring a known tumor associated with excess IGF-2 production
- HSA/FSA eligible
- Results delivered to your dashboard · Reviewed by a real clinician
- Drawn at a CLIA/CAP-accredited lab near you ·
Pre-test considerations
A single serum sample. Follow your ordering clinician's instructions on timing, since IGF-2 is usually interpreted alongside IGF-1 and other endocrine results.

What this test is for
IGF-2 is a growth factor that supports tissue growth and influences blood sugar, produced largely by the liver under broader endocrine control. It is measured mainly as an adjunct to IGF-1 in the workup of growth disorders, and elevated IGF-2 is a recognized cause of tumor-related hypoglycemia, where certain non-pancreatic tumors overproduce it and drive blood sugar down. Results are interpreted alongside IGF-1, often as an IGF-2 to IGF-1 ratio, rather than in isolation.
This is the IGF-2 form, a specialized test for these specific questions. IGF-1 is the routine marker of growth hormone status and the better default for general growth and pituitary evaluation, while IGFBP-3 measures the main binding protein that carries both growth factors.

Frequently asked questions
View all FAQsHow does pricing work?
Every test shows the member price next to the standard non-member price, so you can see what membership saves you. The member price is our cost — covering the lab and what it takes to run the service — never a profit on the test itself; Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9/mo, and you still pay the lab’s order fee. Prices are itemized before you pay, with no hidden fees.
Where do I get tested?
Choose a partner lab (Quest, Labcorp, or BioReference) at checkout. If your cart spans multiple tests, we consolidate the whole order onto a single lab so you only make one visit.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. This test is HSA/FSA eligible, and you can pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results post to your dashboard once your lab completes them, then a clinician reviews them and your full analysis and personalized action plan (with clear next steps) follow. Turnaround varies by test: specialty assays and at-home kits take longer, and each test shows its expected turnaround before you buy.
Do I need a doctor’s order?
No. Mito provides the lab order for you, so you can book and get tested without a separate doctor visit.
