Immunoglobulin A (IgA)
Your main mucosal antibody, and the key check for IgA deficiency.
Consider this test if:
- Recurrent sinus, ear, or respiratory infections suggesting an antibody deficiency
- Confirming IgA status before or alongside celiac antibody testing
- Investigating a suspected plasma-cell disorder or an abnormal protein finding
- Chronic gut or liver conditions affecting mucosal immunity
- Establishing an immune baseline as part of a broader workup
- HSA/FSA eligible
- Typical results in 1 day · Reviewed by a real clinician
- Drawn at a CLIA/CAP-accredited lab near you ·
Pre-test considerations
No fasting required. Recent vigorous exercise can transiently raise IgA, and levels run lower during pregnancy, so note either if relevant. A single serum draw is all that is needed.

What this test is for
Immunoglobulin A is the antibody class that guards mucosal surfaces: the gut, airways, and other linings where the body meets the outside world. Low IgA points to immune deficiency, most often selective IgA deficiency, the most common inherited antibody deficiency, which is linked to recurrent sinus and respiratory infections and a higher rate of autoimmune disease. High IgA reflects chronic mucosal inflammation, liver disease, or, when a single clone spikes sharply, a plasma-cell disorder such as multiple myeloma. This test reports total serum IgA, the overall level, rather than antibodies against a specific target.
It is also the reason IgA matters for celiac testing: standard celiac antibodies are IgA-based, so an undetected IgA deficiency can produce a false-negative result. The separate Celiac Disease Panel measures tissue transglutaminase and gliadin antibodies for that diagnosis, and the Immunoglobulins Panel reports IgA alongside IgG and IgM for a fuller immune picture.

Frequently asked questions
View all FAQsHow does pricing work?
Every test shows the member price next to the standard non-member price, so you can see what membership saves you. The member price is our cost — covering the lab and what it takes to run the service — never a profit on the test itself; Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9/mo, and you still pay the lab’s order fee. Prices are itemized before you pay, with no hidden fees.
Where do I get tested?
Choose a partner lab (Quest, Labcorp, or BioReference) at checkout. If your cart spans multiple tests, we consolidate the whole order onto a single lab so you only make one visit.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. This test is HSA/FSA eligible, and you can pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results post to your dashboard once your lab completes them, then a clinician reviews them and your full analysis and personalized action plan (with clear next steps) follow. Turnaround varies by test: specialty assays and at-home kits take longer, and each test shows its expected turnaround before you buy.
Do I need a doctor’s order?
No. Mito provides the lab order for you, so you can book and get tested without a separate doctor visit.
