HLA-DQ2/DQ8 Celiac Disease Genotype
A genetic test that can effectively rule out celiac disease, since nearly all cases carry these markers.
Consider this test if:
- Persistent digestive symptoms, unexplained anemia, or fatigue with inconclusive celiac antibody results
- A first-degree relative with celiac disease and you want to know your genetic risk
- Already on a gluten-free diet, which makes antibody and biopsy testing unreliable but does not affect this DNA test
- Wanting to definitively rule celiac out before committing to lifelong gluten avoidance
- HSA/FSA eligible
- Results delivered to your dashboard · Reviewed by a real clinician
- Drawn at a CLIA/CAP-accredited lab near you ·
Pre-test considerations
No fasting or special preparation required. This is a DNA test, so results are unaffected by what you eat, and you do not need to be consuming gluten beforehand. Genes are fixed for life, so the test never needs to be repeated.

What this test is for
This test detects the HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8 genes, the immune-system variants that allow gluten to trigger the abnormal mucosal response behind celiac disease. About 90% of people with celiac carry HLA-DQ2 and most of the rest carry HLA-DQ8, so a negative result makes celiac very unlikely and is one of the few tests that can essentially take it off the table. A positive result is less conclusive: roughly 30 to 40% of the general population carries these genes, and most of them never develop the disease, so it shows genetic predisposition rather than diagnosis.
This genotype reports the underlying DQA1 and DQB1 alleles alongside the DQ2/DQ8 result. Because these genes are fixed at birth, a single test settles the question for life and never needs repeating, unlike antibody tests, which depend on whether you are currently eating gluten.

Frequently asked questions
View all FAQsHow does pricing work?
Every test shows the member price next to the standard non-member price, so you can see what membership saves you. The member price is our cost — covering the lab and what it takes to run the service — never a profit on the test itself; Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9/mo, and you still pay the lab’s order fee. Prices are itemized before you pay, with no hidden fees.
Where do I get tested?
Choose a partner lab (Quest, Labcorp, or BioReference) at checkout. If your cart spans multiple tests, we consolidate the whole order onto a single lab so you only make one visit.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. This test is HSA/FSA eligible, and you can pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results post to your dashboard once your lab completes them, then a clinician reviews them and your full analysis and personalized action plan (with clear next steps) follow. Turnaround varies by test: specialty assays and at-home kits take longer, and each test shows its expected turnaround before you buy.
Do I need a doctor’s order?
No. Mito provides the lab order for you, so you can book and get tested without a separate doctor visit.
