Hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs) is the antibody your immune system makes after hepatitis B vaccination or after clearing a past infection. A level at or above 10 mIU/mL indicates protective immunity, which is why this test is the standard way to confirm a vaccine worked. A negative or low result means you are not protected and may need vaccination or a booster. It does not detect active infection: that question is answered by the surface antigen (HBsAg) test, and a full picture of infection status uses antigen and core antibody together. This quantitative serum assay reports the actual antibody concentration in mIU/mL rather than a simple positive or negative.
