Hepatitis B Core Ab W/Reflex
An antibody that marks past or present exposure to hepatitis B, whether or not you were vaccinated.
Consider this test if:
- Clarifying whether a hepatitis B result reflects past infection or vaccination
- Unexplained hepatitis signs such as jaundice, fatigue, dark urine, or abnormal liver enzymes
- Screening before starting immunosuppressive therapy, which can reactivate a past hepatitis B infection
- Assessing exposure risk before donating blood or during pregnancy
- Following up known or possible hepatitis B exposure alongside other viral markers
- HSA/FSA eligible
- Typical results in 1-3 days · Reviewed by a real clinician
- Drawn at a CLIA/CAP-accredited lab near you ·
Reflex testing
If your core antibody result is out of range, a related follow-up test runs automatically to refine the picture, such as distinguishing recent from past exposure. This is done at no additional cost.
Pre-test considerations
No fasting required, and timing does not affect the result. Recent hepatitis B vaccination does not produce core antibody, so a positive result reflects actual exposure rather than the vaccine.

What this test is for
Hepatitis B core antibody (anti-HBc) is produced in response to natural hepatitis B infection, not to vaccination, so it distinguishes true viral exposure from vaccine-induced immunity. This total assay detects both IgM and IgG anti-HBc: IgM appears early and fades over about six months, while IgG persists indefinitely, so a positive total result signals current or past exposure without pinning down the timing. It is interpreted alongside other hepatitis B markers such as surface antigen (HBsAg) and surface antibody (anti-HBs) to sort acute infection, chronic infection, and recovered or resolved infection. Because anti-HBc is rarely the only detectable marker, it is not the right test for catching brand-new acute infection on its own.
This is the core-antibody component. If you want a broader exposure screen across hepatitis A, B, and C, the full hepatitis panel is the better starting point.

Frequently asked questions
View all FAQsHow does pricing work?
Every test shows the member price next to the standard non-member price, so you can see what membership saves you. The member price is our cost — covering the lab and what it takes to run the service — never a profit on the test itself; Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9/mo, and you still pay the lab’s order fee. Prices are itemized before you pay, with no hidden fees.
Where do I get tested?
Choose a partner lab (Quest, Labcorp, or BioReference) at checkout. If your cart spans multiple tests, we consolidate the whole order onto a single lab so you only make one visit.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. This test is HSA/FSA eligible, and you can pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results post to your dashboard once your lab completes them, then a clinician reviews them and your full analysis and personalized action plan (with clear next steps) follow. Turnaround varies by test: specialty assays and at-home kits take longer, and each test shows its expected turnaround before you buy.
Do I need a doctor’s order?
No. Mito provides the lab order for you, so you can book and get tested without a separate doctor visit.
