What this test is for
Free hemoglobin in urine appears when red blood cells rupture inside the circulation faster than the body's binding proteins can clear the released hemoglobin, which then spills through the kidneys into the urine. A positive result points to intravascular hemolysis, with causes including transfusion reactions, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, mechanical destruction from heart valves or hard exercise, certain infections, and severe burns. It is distinct from hematuria, where intact red blood cells enter the urine from bleeding in the urinary tract, and it is interpreted alongside blood markers of hemolysis such as haptoglobin, LDH, and the reticulocyte count.
This measures free hemoglobin in a urine sample. It is a different test from the blood hemoglobin level (the standard anemia and oxygen-carrying measure), HbA1c (average blood sugar), and hemoglobin fractionation (which identifies hemoglobin variants like sickle and thalassemia traits).

Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?

When will I get my results?
