Glucose Tolerance Test, 1-Hour Postprandial
A one-hour glucose reading that screens for blood sugar that spikes too high after eating, most often used in pregnancy.
Consider this test if:
- Pregnant and being screened for gestational diabetes
- A prior pregnancy involved gestational diabetes or a large birth-weight baby
- Family history of type 2 diabetes or known risk factors during pregnancy
- Following up on a borderline fasting glucose with a post-meal measurement
- HSA/FSA eligible
- Results delivered to your dashboard · Reviewed by a real clinician
- Drawn at a CLIA/CAP-accredited lab near you ·
Pre-test considerations
Timing is the critical detail: blood must be drawn exactly one hour after the meal or glucose drink, so coordinate the draw with your provider's instructions. Follow the specific prep your clinician gives for the load used. Recent illness, certain medications, and major changes in activity can shift the result.

What this test is for
This test measures blood glucose exactly one hour after a glucose load or meal, capturing how high your blood sugar climbs once carbohydrate hits the bloodstream. It is most commonly used as the first-step screen for gestational diabetes, where a high one-hour value flags impaired glucose handling that fasting glucose alone can miss. A positive result is a screen, not a diagnosis: in pregnancy it is confirmed with a longer oral glucose tolerance test before gestational diabetes is diagnosed.
This is the single one-hour draw. The related two-specimen and 2-hour tolerance tests add fasting and later timepoints for fuller characterization, and the dedicated gestational protocols use a standardized 75-gram or follow-up load for confirmation.

Frequently asked questions
View all FAQsHow does pricing work?
Every test shows the member price next to the standard non-member price, so you can see what membership saves you. The member price is our cost, covering the lab and what it takes to run the service. It is never a profit on the test itself. Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9 per month, and any applicable lab order or draw fee is itemized before you pay.
Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. Eligible tests can be paid for with an HSA or FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results appear in your Mito dashboard after the laboratory completes processing. A clinician then reviews them before your analysis and personalized action plan are finalized. Timing varies by test, and specialty assays and at-home kits may take longer.
Do I need a physician's order?
No. Mito provides the laboratory order when one is required, so you do not need to arrange a separate physician visit before purchasing.
