Pre-test considerations
No fasting required. Continue eating a normal gluten-containing diet for several weeks before testing, since a gluten-free or reduced-gluten diet lowers gliadin antibodies and can produce a falsely negative result. If you have already started a gluten-free diet, tell your clinician, as it affects interpretation.

What this test is for
Deamidated gliadin IgA is an antibody the immune system produces in response to gliadin, a protein fraction of gluten, and it rises in some people with gluten-sensitive conditions such as celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis. It is one of several markers used to evaluate symptoms like chronic diarrhea, bloating, abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, iron deficiency, or an itchy blistering rash. A negative IgA result does not rule out celiac disease on its own, partly because selective IgA deficiency is relatively common in celiac patients, so total IgA and the IgG-based gliadin and tissue transglutaminase tests are often checked alongside it. False positives also occur with other gut disorders, including Crohn disease, food protein intolerance, and post-infection malabsorption.
For an accurate result, you need to be eating gluten regularly before testing; a gluten-free diet lowers these antibodies and can mask the condition. If celiac disease is the main question, tissue transglutaminase IgA is the usual first-line marker, and a positive result typically leads to referral for confirmatory biopsy.

Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?

When will I get my results?
