No fasting required and timing of day does not matter. Because antibody levels shift over the course of infection, the stage of illness affects interpretation; testing very early may miss antibodies that have not yet risen, so repeat testing weeks later is sometimes needed to clarify the pattern.

What this test is for
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is the common cause of infectious mononucleosis and infects most people by adulthood, often without symptoms. This test reads the antibodies that mark where you are in an EBV infection: VCA IgM rises first and fades within weeks to a few months, VCA IgG appears early and persists for life, and EBNA IgG shows up months into recovery and stays for life. Together they distinguish a current or recent infection from a past one or from no prior exposure, which is the usual question when mono-like illness brings fatigue, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, and fever. Timing matters for interpretation, since a single marker in isolation can be misleading early in the illness.

It is never a profit on the test itself. Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9 per month, and any applicable lab order or draw fee is itemized before you pay.
Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. Eligible tests can be paid for with an HSA or FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results appear in your Mito dashboard after the laboratory completes processing. A clinician then reviews them before your analysis and personalized action plan are finalized. Timing varies by test, and specialty assays and at-home kits may take longer.
