Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Antibodies (IgG, IgM)
Tells you whether you've been exposed to a common herpesvirus, and whether the exposure is recent.
Consider this test if:
- Planning a pregnancy or evaluating CMV status during pregnancy
- A mononucleosis-like illness with fever and fatigue when the mono test is negative
- Establishing immune status before or after an organ or stem-cell transplant
- Immunocompromised and screening for active or reactivated infection
- Confirming prior exposure and lasting immunity from a single draw
- HSA/FSA eligible
- Results delivered to your dashboard · Reviewed by a real clinician
- Drawn at a CLIA/CAP-accredited lab near you ·
Pre-test considerations
No fasting required and no special timing. If you are tracking a suspected recent infection, a repeat draw a few weeks later can show a rising IgG response, which is more informative than a single result.

What this test is for
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a widespread herpesvirus that most people catch by adulthood, usually with mild or no symptoms, then carries lifelong in a latent state that can reactivate. This test measures two antibody classes together: IgG, which indicates present or past infection and lasting immunity, and IgM, which suggests recent exposure. A positive IgG alone tells you that you have been infected at some point; the addition of IgM points to a recent primary infection or a reactivation, though it does not distinguish between the two. CMV matters most in pregnancy, where a primary infection can be transmitted to the fetus, and in people who are immunocompromised or being evaluated before or after organ or stem-cell transplant. It is also checked in mononucleosis-like illness (fever, fatigue, swollen glands) when a heterophile (mono) test is negative.
This combined panel gives both immune status and recency in one draw. The separate single-analyte IgG and IgM tests in our catalog each measure only one of those antibodies.

Frequently asked questions
View all FAQsHow does pricing work?
Every test shows the member price next to the standard non-member price, so you can see what membership saves you. The member price is our cost — covering the lab and what it takes to run the service — never a profit on the test itself; Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9/mo, and you still pay the lab’s order fee. Prices are itemized before you pay, with no hidden fees.
Where do I get tested?
Choose a partner lab (Quest, Labcorp, or BioReference) at checkout. If your cart spans multiple tests, we consolidate the whole order onto a single lab so you only make one visit.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. This test is HSA/FSA eligible, and you can pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results post to your dashboard once your lab completes them, then a clinician reviews them and your full analysis and personalized action plan (with clear next steps) follow. Turnaround varies by test: specialty assays and at-home kits take longer, and each test shows its expected turnaround before you buy.
Do I need a doctor’s order?
No. Mito provides the lab order for you, so you can book and get tested without a separate doctor visit.
