What this test is for
Creatine kinase (CK) is an enzyme that leaks into the blood when muscle tissue is damaged, so total CK rises after intense exercise, muscle injury, rhabdomyolysis, and inflammatory muscle diseases like polymyositis. This test reports both total CK and CK-MB, the fraction concentrated in heart muscle, which helps separate cardiac muscle damage from skeletal muscle damage. CK-MB rises with myocardial injury (acute MI, myocarditis, some cardiomyopathies) and can also climb when extensive skeletal muscle breakdown spills MB into circulation, so it is read against total CK and the clinical picture.
This combined panel gives the MB mass measurement alongside total CK in one draw. If you want only the overall muscle-damage signal, the standalone total CK test covers that; if you need to resolve which isoenzyme is driving an elevation, the CK isoenzyme electrophoresis panel breaks it into MM, MB, and BB fractions.

Where do I get tested?
