Pre-test considerations

Cardiolipin antibodies are autoantibodies that target a phospholipid in cell membranes and are one of the core markers of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), an autoimmune condition that raises the risk of arterial and venous clots, stroke, heart attack, low platelets, and recurrent pregnancy loss. This test measures both the IgG and IgM isotypes; moderate-to-high IgG titers carry the strongest link to thrombosis and miscarriage, while IgM is also associated with venous clots. Because these antibodies are fairly common in the general population and often transient, especially during pregnancy, after infection, or with certain drugs, a single positive result does not diagnose APS. Diagnosis requires medium or high titers confirmed on two occasions at least six to twelve weeks apart, alongside the clinical history. Cardiolipin testing is usually paired with lupus anticoagulant and beta-2 glycoprotein I antibodies, since each catches cases the others miss.
This two-isotype version covers IgG and IgM. The IgA isotype is added in the three-isotype version, and the full antiphospholipid panel adds beta-2 glycoprotein I and phosphatidylserine-prothrombin antibodies for a complete workup when APS is strongly suspected.

Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
