Pre-test considerations
No fasting required. Timing matters for interpretation: testing is best deferred until at least three weeks after completing primary chemotherapy and at least two months after abdominal surgery, since recent treatment and surgery distort the result. Menstruation, pregnancy, and benign gynecologic conditions can also raise the value.

What this test is for
CA 125 is a protein shed by many ovarian cancer cells, measured in blood to track disease activity over time. Its primary value is serial monitoring: a falling level during or after treatment suggests response, while a rising level can signal residual or recurrent serous ovarian carcinoma before imaging confirms it. Elevated CA 125 is not specific to cancer, since benign conditions such as endometriosis, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, pelvic inflammation, menstruation, and pregnancy raise it, and other malignancies (endometrial, breast, gastrointestinal) can too. For that reason it is most useful when trended in someone with a known diagnosis rather than read as a one-time screen in the general population. This is the ovarian-focused marker; the related CA 19-9 is used mainly for pancreatic and biliary cancers and CA 27.29 for breast cancer monitoring.

Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
