C-Peptide
A direct readout of how much insulin your pancreas is actually making.
Consider this test if:
- Classifying diabetes type or judging how much beta-cell function remains
- Episodes of low blood sugar, shakiness, sweating, or confusion that need a cause
- Signs of insulin resistance such as weight gain, high triglycerides, or rising fasting glucose
- Already on insulin and wanting to see how much insulin your own pancreas still produces
- Tracking metabolic change over time alongside glucose and A1c
- HSA/FSA eligible
- Typical results in 1 day · Reviewed by a real clinician
- Drawn at a CLIA/CAP-accredited lab near you ·
Pre-test considerations
Overnight fasting is required, so schedule a morning draw and avoid food and caloric drinks beforehand. Note any insulin or glucose-lowering medication you take, since timing affects the result. Water is fine.

What this test is for
C-peptide is released by pancreatic beta cells in equal amounts to insulin, so it tracks your own insulin production better than measuring insulin alone, especially if you take insulin (which assays cannot distinguish from the insulin your body makes). High C-peptide reflects excess insulin output, common in insulin resistance, early type 2 diabetes, and obesity, while low C-peptide points to limited beta-cell function, as in type 1 diabetes or advanced type 2. It is also used to investigate unexplained low blood sugar, where it helps separate an insulin-producing tumor from injected insulin.
This page is the standalone C-peptide measurement. If you want insulin production and insulin resistance read together, the Insulin and C-Peptide Panel pairs both, and the Insulin Resistance Panel with Score adds a calculated resistance score; C-peptide on its own is the right pick when the question is specifically how much insulin your beta cells are secreting.

Frequently asked questions
View all FAQsHow does pricing work?
Every test shows the member price next to the standard non-member price, so you can see what membership saves you. The member price is our cost — covering the lab and what it takes to run the service — never a profit on the test itself; Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9/mo, and you still pay the lab’s order fee. Prices are itemized before you pay, with no hidden fees.
Where do I get tested?
Choose a partner lab (Quest, Labcorp, or BioReference) at checkout. If your cart spans multiple tests, we consolidate the whole order onto a single lab so you only make one visit.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. This test is HSA/FSA eligible, and you can pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results post to your dashboard once your lab completes them, then a clinician reviews them and your full analysis and personalized action plan (with clear next steps) follow. Turnaround varies by test: specialty assays and at-home kits take longer, and each test shows its expected turnaround before you buy.
Do I need a doctor’s order?
No. Mito provides the lab order for you, so you can book and get tested without a separate doctor visit.
