What this test is for
Babesia duncani (also called WA1) is a malaria-like parasite spread by tick bites that infects red blood cells and causes babesiosis, with most documented cases in the Pacific Northwest and western United States. This test measures IgG antibodies to Babesia duncani, which reflect that your immune system has responded to the parasite. Symptoms overlap with those caused by the more common Babesia microti and include fever, chills, drenching sweats, fatigue, muscle aches, and hemolytic anemia, and can be severe in people without a spleen or with weakened immunity. IgG rises later in infection and can persist after the parasite clears, so a single positive does not by itself separate active from past exposure; acute infection is confirmed with a blood smear or PCR, and Babesia duncani antibodies do not cross-react reliably with the eastern Babesia microti test.

Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?

When will I get my results?
