Pre-test considerations
No fasting required. Avoid vigorous exercise before the draw, since it can transiently raise BNP. Note that BNP rises with age, and certain heart failure medications (such as sacubitril/valsartan) and kidney function affect levels, so report current medications.

BNP is a hormone the ventricles of the heart secrete in response to increased pressure and stretch. Levels rise when the heart is working harder than it should, which is why BNP is one of the central markers used to evaluate suspected heart failure in people with shortness of breath, fluid retention, swelling in the legs, or reduced exercise tolerance. A low BNP is reassuring and helps rule out heart failure as the cause of breathlessness, while elevated levels point toward cardiac strain and warrant echocardiography and clinical follow-up. BNP rises naturally with age and increases transiently after vigorous exercise, so results are read against your age and recent activity. Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. Eligible tests can be paid for with an HSA or FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
