APOE Alzheimer's Disease Risk Genotype
The strongest common genetic risk factor for late-onset Alzheimer's disease.
Consider this test if:
- A parent or sibling developed Alzheimer's or another dementia
- You want to understand your inherited risk before symptoms or planning decisions
- You are weighing earlier lifestyle, cardiovascular, and cognitive prevention
- You are considering Alzheimer's prevention research or clinical trials, which often factor in APOE status
- HSA/FSA eligible
- Results delivered to your dashboard · Reviewed by a real clinician
- Drawn at a CLIA/CAP-accredited lab near you ·
Pre-test considerations
No fasting and no special timing required. This is a genetic test, so the result reflects fixed inherited DNA and is not affected by diet, supplements, or time of day. Given the personal and family implications of the result, genetic counseling before or after testing is worth considering.

What this test is for
APOE is a gene that comes in three common variants (e2, e3, e4) and shapes how the body handles fats and clears amyloid in the brain. This test reports which two copies you carry. Carrying one or two e4 alleles raises the risk of late-onset Alzheimer's disease, with two copies carrying the highest risk, while e2 is associated with lower risk. The result is a risk factor, not a diagnosis or a prediction: many e4 carriers never develop Alzheimer's, and many people with the disease carry no e4, so the genotype is best understood alongside family history, age, and overall brain and metabolic health.
This is the same APOE genotype reported by our APOE Cardiovascular Risk Genotype test, framed here for Alzheimer's risk; that companion item interprets the same result for lipid metabolism and heart-disease risk. Because your genotype does not change, a single test settles it for life.

Frequently asked questions
View all FAQsHow does pricing work?
Every test shows the member price next to the standard non-member price, so you can see what membership saves you. The member price is our cost, covering the lab and what it takes to run the service. It is never a profit on the test itself. Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9 per month, and any applicable lab order or draw fee is itemized before you pay.
Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. Eligible tests can be paid for with an HSA or FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results appear in your Mito dashboard after the laboratory completes processing. A clinician then reviews them before your analysis and personalized action plan are finalized. Timing varies by test, and specialty assays and at-home kits may take longer.
Do I need a physician's order?
No. Mito provides the laboratory order when one is required, so you do not need to arrange a separate physician visit before purchasing.
