What this test is for
Antinuclear antibodies (ANA) are antibodies directed against components of the cell nucleus, and their presence points toward an autoimmune process where the immune system targets the body's own tissues. This test detects and titers those antibodies by immunofluorescence, and it is the standard starting point when evaluating conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), Sjogren's syndrome, scleroderma, mixed connective tissue disease, and autoimmune thyroid disease. It is commonly ordered to investigate clusters like persistent joint pain, unexplained fatigue, rashes (including photosensitive or butterfly rashes), dry eyes and mouth, and prolonged low-grade fevers. A positive ANA indicates autoimmunity is worth pursuing, not a specific diagnosis: low titers appear in many healthy people and can follow infections, so the result is read alongside symptoms, titer level, and staining pattern. A negative result is genuinely useful too, since it makes lupus in particular much less likely.

Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?

When will I get my results?
