Pre-test considerations
No specific fasting requirement for amylase itself, though a routine fast is fine. Lipemic (high-triglyceride) serum can falsely lower results, and samples drawn into oxalate, citrate, or EDTA tubes are not acceptable. Note any recent opioids such as morphine, which can raise levels.

What this test is for
Amylase is an enzyme that breaks down carbohydrates, produced mainly by the pancreas and salivary glands. Serum amylase rises in acute pancreatitis, where about 80% of cases show elevated levels within 24 hours, and it is used in the workup of abdominal pain, epigastric tenderness, nausea, and vomiting. It is not perfectly specific: levels also climb with salivary inflammation (such as mumps), bowel obstruction, perforated ulcer, biliary stones, diabetic ketoacidosis, and renal impairment, and the salivary fraction accounts for most circulating amylase even though the pancreatic fraction is what matters clinically. Normal amylase does not rule out pancreatitis, particularly chronic or relapsing disease, so lipase is often measured alongside it and tends to stay elevated longer. When pancreatitis is the question, the two enzymes together are more informative than amylase alone.

Membership is $9 per month, and any applicable lab order or draw fee is itemized before you pay.
Where do I get tested?
Choose an available partner lab at checkout. If your cart contains multiple blood tests, Mito helps consolidate the eligible tests at one lab when possible. At-home kits and scans follow the collection or appointment process shown on their product page.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?

When will I get my results?
