Albumin and Creatinine, 24-Hour Urine
A sensitive early signal of kidney damage, before standard kidney tests shift.
Consider this test if:
- Living with diabetes or high blood pressure and screening for early kidney involvement
- A previous spot albumin-to-creatinine ratio came back elevated and needs precise confirmation
- Tracking kidney function over time with a known family history of kidney disease
- Monitoring how blood pressure, glucose control, or medication is affecting protein leakage
- Swelling, foamy urine, or other signs prompting a closer look at kidney filtering
- HSA/FSA eligible
- Results delivered to your dashboard · Reviewed by a real clinician
- Drawn at a CLIA/CAP-accredited lab near you ·
Pre-test considerations
Collect all urine over a full 24-hour period using the container provided: discard the first morning void, then collect every void for the next 24 hours including the final morning sample. Keep the collection refrigerated or cool during the period and avoid heavy exercise beforehand, since intense activity can transiently raise urine albumin. No fasting required. Note any recent fever, urinary tract infection, or menstruation, as these can affect results.

What this test is for
This test measures the amount of albumin leaking into your urine over a full 24-hour collection, alongside creatinine to confirm the collection was complete and accurate. Albumin is a protein the kidneys normally keep in the blood, so even small amounts in urine (microalbuminuria) are one of the earliest signs that the filtering units are under strain. It is the standard early marker for kidney damage in diabetes and high blood pressure, often turning positive years before creatinine in the blood or eGFR move. High results point to early diabetic nephropathy, hypertensive kidney damage, or glomerular disease, and a single elevated value is usually confirmed on a repeat collection.
This 24-hour version captures total daily albumin loss and is used when a precise quantified excretion is needed; the spot urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio is the more convenient screening default. If your question is heavier protein loss rather than early microalbuminuria, the total protein and creatinine collection is the better fit.

Frequently asked questions
View all FAQsHow does pricing work?
Every test shows the member price next to the standard non-member price, so you can see what membership saves you. The member price is our cost — covering the lab and what it takes to run the service — never a profit on the test itself; Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9/mo, and you still pay the lab’s order fee. Prices are itemized before you pay, with no hidden fees.
Where do I get tested?
Choose a partner lab (Quest, Labcorp, or BioReference) at checkout. If your cart spans multiple tests, we consolidate the whole order onto a single lab so you only make one visit.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. This test is HSA/FSA eligible, and you can pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results post to your dashboard once your lab completes them, then a clinician reviews them and your full analysis and personalized action plan (with clear next steps) follow. Turnaround varies by test: specialty assays and at-home kits take longer, and each test shows its expected turnaround before you buy.
Do I need a doctor’s order?
No. Mito provides the lab order for you, so you can book and get tested without a separate doctor visit.
