Pre-test considerations
Fasting 9 to 12 hours is recommended for accurate triglycerides and calculated LDL. This panel goes well beyond a standard lipid panel. Alongside total, HDL, LDL, and non-HDL cholesterol and triglycerides, it measures ApoB and ApoA-1 (the particle counts behind plaque and reverse cholesterol transport), Lp(a) (an inherited, independent cardiovascular risk factor), and a set of vascular-inflammation and clotting markers: hs-CRP, Lp-PLA2 activity, myeloperoxidase, oxidized LDL, fibrinogen, and TMAO.
