The risk it captures is independent of cholesterol, blood pressure, and the other factors standard testing measures, which is why it adds the most for early events: heart attack before 50 in men and before 60 in women. Because your genotype is fixed at birth, a single test settles it for life and does not need repeating. It informs how aggressively to manage the risk factors you can change, such as ApoB, blood pressure, and glucose.
