9p21 Cardiovascular Risk Genotype
An inherited variant on chromosome 9 tied to early heart attack and coronary artery disease risk.
Consider this test if:
- Heart disease or early heart attack runs in your family, particularly before 50 in men or 60 in women
- You want a one-time inherited-risk read that routine cholesterol and blood pressure testing does not capture
- You are deciding how aggressively to manage modifiable cardiovascular risk factors
- Your standard lipid and metabolic numbers look unremarkable but family history concerns you
- HSA/FSA eligible
- Results delivered to your dashboard · Reviewed by a real clinician
- Drawn at a CLIA/CAP-accredited lab near you ·
Pre-test considerations
No fasting or special timing required. This is a genetic test, so the result does not change with diet, medication, time of day, or recent activity, and a single draw is definitive.

What this test is for
The 9p21 region holds the most consistently replicated common genetic variants for coronary artery disease, and this test reads two of them (rs10757278 and rs1333049) to estimate inherited risk of myocardial infarction. The risk it captures is independent of cholesterol, blood pressure, and the other factors standard testing measures, which is why it adds the most for early events: heart attack before 50 in men and before 60 in women. Because your genotype is fixed at birth, a single test settles it for life and does not need repeating. It informs how aggressively to manage the risk factors you can change, such as ApoB, blood pressure, and glucose. This is the 9p21 coronary risk variant specifically; the separate APOE genotype is read for lipid metabolism and Alzheimer's-related questions, the LPA aspirin genotype for whether aspirin is likely to help, and the 4q25 genotype for atrial fibrillation risk.

Frequently asked questions
View all FAQsHow does pricing work?
Every test shows the member price next to the standard non-member price, so you can see what membership saves you. The member price is our cost — covering the lab and what it takes to run the service — never a profit on the test itself; Mito makes its money on the $9 membership, not on marking up your tests. Membership is $9/mo, and you still pay the lab’s order fee. Prices are itemized before you pay, with no hidden fees.
Where do I get tested?
Choose a partner lab (Quest, Labcorp, or BioReference) at checkout. If your cart spans multiple tests, we consolidate the whole order onto a single lab so you only make one visit.
Is this eligible for HSA/FSA?
Yes. This test is HSA/FSA eligible, and you can pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout.
When will I get my results?
Your results post to your dashboard once your lab completes them, then a clinician reviews them and your full analysis and personalized action plan (with clear next steps) follow. Turnaround varies by test: specialty assays and at-home kits take longer, and each test shows its expected turnaround before you buy.
Do I need a doctor’s order?
No. Mito provides the lab order for you, so you can book and get tested without a separate doctor visit.
