Your biggest health risks don't show up on standard panels.

4x

Higher cardiovascular risk

Compared to the general U.S. population, and it often strikes a full decade earlier.

50%

Heart attacks before 50

Half of heart attacks in South Asians happen before age 50, far earlier than any other group.

30%

Higher Lp(a) levels

A genetically elevated cardiovascular risk factor that standard cholesterol panels skip.

Why South Asians need different screening

Why do South Asians need different health screening?
  • South Asian genetics and metabolism affect how common biomarkers should be interpreted.
  • Standard reference ranges, built on primarily European populations, can miss elevated cardiovascular and metabolic risk in South Asians.
  • Mito calibrates thresholds based on published clinical evidence specific to South Asian populations.

Your body is unique.
Your reference ranges should be too.

Standard lab ranges were built on datasets that don't look like you. We interpret your results in context: your ancestry, your lifestyle, your history.

ApoB (Apolipoprotein B)
92 mg/dL
Standard: ≥100
South Asian-adjusted: ≥80

An ApoB of 92 mg/dL sits below the standard 100 cutoff, so most panels report 'Normal.' But South Asians develop atherosclerosis at ApoB levels considered acceptable in the general population, and the plaque builds up years before standard cholesterol panels flag it. Leading cardiologists working with South Asian patients target under 80, where earlier action on nutrition, training, and medication can meaningfully cut a cardiovascular risk that otherwise strikes a decade earlier.

“Deeper insights than a typical annual physical”

I learned more in one Mito panel than I had from 10 years of annual checkups. They actually look at insulin resistance, not just fasting glucose.

AS
Arjun Singh

“Helped show the full picture”

I'm a 2nd gen South Asian and Mito was the first service that understood my background matters. The panel felt genuinely personalized.

“Caught what my PCP missed”

My glucose was 'normal' but my fasting insulin and HOMA-IR showed I was insulin resistant. That changed my entire approach to diet and exercise.

Raj Sharma

“Worth every dollar”

With a family history of heart disease on both sides, I needed answers, not reassurance. Mito gave me real data and an action plan I could take to my doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions

View all FAQs
Who did Mito work with to curate this panel?

We partnered with Pratik Patel, MS, RD, CSCS — a former NFL Coach/Director with 10+ years in elite sport — alongside our medical advisory team led by Prof. Brian Kennedy, Matt Kaeberlein, and Ryan Ware, MBBS. Every marker and threshold reflects published clinical evidence on South Asian-specific cardiovascular, metabolic, and hormonal risk.

Why do South Asians need different health screening?

South Asians face elevated rates of specific conditions including cardiovascular disease, metabolic disorders, certain cancers, and fatty liver, that standard Western screening protocols often miss. Diabetes and metabolic disease also develop at lower BMI and blood sugar levels than generic thresholds suggest.

I already get an annual check-up. Why is this different?

Most annual check-ups test basic blood counts and cholesterol using generic Western reference ranges. We screen for condition-specific biomarkers like ApoB, Lp(a), fasting insulin, and HOMA-IR, and we interpret all results using South Asian-specific thresholds validated by research.

What about diet and lifestyle recommendations?

Recommendations account for your heritage, lifestyle, and food culture — not a one-size-fits-all plan. Your care team adapts guidance to how you actually eat, so you don't have to abandon the foods that are central to your life to be healthy.

Do I need to fast before the test?

Yes, we recommend fasting for 10-12 hours before your appointment for accurate metabolic and lipid results.

How often should I get screened?

We recommend annual comprehensive screening for adults over 35, or earlier if you have family history of cancer, cardiovascular, or metabolic conditions.

Is this covered by insurance?

The $671 annual membership is HSA/FSA eligible. You can also split into 4 interest-free payments of $167.75.

Your risks are specific. Your answers should be too.

Get a health screen designed around the risks that matter most for South Asians. One price, everything included.
