How accurate is the Lucence cancer screening?

Here is how Lucence works:

Lucence uses amplicon-based technology to screen with 98.5% specificity. 

Here’s what it means: Imagine you have a giant library full of books (your DNA). Amplicon technology is like selecting a specific shelf (targeted region) instead of searching the whole library.

Here's how it works:

• Finding the right shelf: Special tags (primers) stick only to the books that we want to find (target DNA), in your blood sample.
• Making copies: A machine called PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is used to photocopy those books - amplifying the target DNA millions of times, making them easier to read.
• Reading the code: Next Generation Sequencing is used to read the code written in those books to see if there are any mistakes (mutations). In Lucence tests, cancer mutations called ctDNA are specifically targeted. 

This way, the cancer-relevant portions of your DNA are analyzed quickly and accurately, which results in high accuracy.
