Heavy Metals Test
Get tested for heavy metal exposure with a blood, urine, or hair test. Detect lead, mercury, cadmium & arsenic levels with Mito Health’s heavy metal panel.
Copper, zinc, and iron are some heavy metals naturally present in your body to help certain bodily functions. But, exposure to other heavy metals like lead, mercury, arsenic, and cadmium may harm you and lead to poisoning. The reality is you might be unknowingly exposing yourself to heavy metals in your environment, workplace, or contaminated items you regularly use. Without proper testing, heavy metal toxicity can silently undermine your health. Mito Health’s heavy metals test helps you find out if you’re in any way exposed to harmful metals for speedy recovery.
What Is a Heavy Metal Toxicity Test and How Does It Work?
A heavy metals panel or heavy metal toxicity test measures specific metal concentrations in your body. It is done with blood, urine, hair, or fingernail tests to diagnose heavy metal poisoning. This panel tests for metals like lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, and more.
Why is Heavy Metal Testing Important?
Metals are seen almost everywhere around us. Lead, mercury, arsenic, and cadmium are naturally present in our environment through food, water, pollution, and industry work. What makes these metals harmful for your health is when you inhale, ingest, and absorb or get exposed to them. Over time, lead exposure, mercury poisoning, arsenic poisoning, and cadmium inhalation will cause you to develop a range of health problems—from chronic fatigue and neurological issues to hormonal imbalances and digestive disorders. Testing for heavy metals is important because it helps you identify specific toxic metals and their levels in your body. This also supports detoxification and restoring your body to optimal health.
How is a Heavy Metals Test Performed?
There are several methods for testing for heavy metals:
Heavy Metals Blood Test: A heavy metal panel blood test measures the levels of heavy metals in your bloodstream and detects whether you have had any recent exposures to them.
Heavy Metal Hair Test: Your hair samples provide a long-term assessment of heavy metal exposure. It reveals patterns of past exposure you may have.
Testing for Heavy Metals in Urine: Urine tests measure how effectively your body excretes heavy metals. This method is often used in conjunction with other tests.
After sample collection, two methods are used to analyze your samples: Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). These methods are very sensitive and accurate, allowing us to detect small amounts of metals in the samples. Beyond toxic metals, some health biomarkers give insights into the potential effect of heavy metal exposure on your body, including kidney and liver function markers and enzyme levels. These biomarkers offer a more comprehensive understanding of your body’s post-heavy metal exposure response.
Understanding Your Heavy Metal Test Results
Your test results will indicate the concentration of each metal tested in your blood and urine in micrograms per liter (µg/L) or deciliter (µg/dL) and hair and fingernails in micrograms per gram (µg/g).Results of low levels of heavy metals mean there is no severe poisoning. But, it’s still important to compare these results to any symptoms you may be experiencing and your history of exposure to toxic metals. High levels of heavy metals suggest poisoning or significant exposure. This result depends on several factors, including which metal is involved, how much the levels exceed normal limits, and whether any symptoms are present.
